Managing Director and Co-Head of Research

Mr. Butler is Managing Director and Co-Head of Research and has thirty-seven years of investment industry experience. As Co-Head of Research, he shares responsibility for the direction of all research related activities as well as for performing credit analysis, primarily focusing on the health care, financial and technology sectors. Mr. Butler's emphasis is on Research Strategy which involves overseeing the content of the Research department's presentations related to client due diligence and new business. In addition, he supervises the research effort of the Company's mandated insurance company portfolios. Mr. Butler has been employed in various areas in the financial markets since beginning his career as a consultant at Ernst & Whinney, where he headed several firm verification and feasibility groups. Subsequently, Mr. Butler was an investment banker with Drexel Burnham Lambert and Kemper Securities, specializing in health care, housing and tax issues. Later, he was Assistant Director for the statewide bond issuing authority, Illinois Development Finance Authority, where he supervised creation of the Illinois State Revolving Fund, Fre$hRate Housing program and numerous utilities initiatives. Mr. Butler received a B.A. from Vanderbilt University and an M.B.A. from George Washington University. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and is a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of Chicago. In addition, Mr. Butler is a Certified Public Accountant ("CPA") and an active member of the American Institute of CPAs and the Illinois CPA Society.
